DEU is located in İzmir. Our city is located on the West coast of Turkey, and known as “the pearl of the Aegean”. Izmir is Turkey’s most beautiful historical and cultural city. The civilization in İzmir has been started 5000 years ago.

DEU has a long and proud history of being a hub of research and education in Turkey, particularly in the Aegean Region since its foundation in 1982. It is one of the largest universities of Turkey with 70.081 students from all over Turkey and 1.366 foreign students from 111 countries study. Though its distinguished position in Turkish Higher Education area, DEU intends to foster its global presence in education and research and to become a key player in the global knowledge network.

DEU has very recently been selected as one of the Research Universities in Turkey. Moreover, it is also one of the pilot universities of the internationalization strategies of the Turkish Higher Education Council. The main aim of the internationalization strategies is to create an international atmosphere in our university.

Department of Chemistry was established in 1998 and started its educational activities in 2003-2004. Our department now consists of 17 professors, 6 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, 5 research assistants and they are all full time positions.

Our department consists of five main departments: Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and research activities, bio-analytical, colloid, electro-analytical, spectroscopic and chromatographic analysis, development of micro-extraction techniques, pharmaceutical chemistry, nanoparticle chemistry, natural chemistry products chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer chemistry.

Our students benefit from the research infrastructure throughout their education and gain the necessary professional experience before graduation. They are integrated into the world through international exchange programs.

In addition to undergraduate education, our department offers graduate program and awards Master of Science and Doctoral degrees. The contents of each of these programmes are closely linked to the  research areas that are conducted at the department.
